We present programme of the 22nd edition of the International Festival of Comics and Games

The 22^nd International Festival of Comics and Games will host numerous special guests from Poland and abroad.

The program  will also feature dedication sessions, workshops for professionals and amateurs, discussions, competitions, live drawing, Miss Comics pageant. Furthermore – the Manga Corner with cosplay and anime movies, the Star Wars zone, computer games zone and kids zone. The festival would not be complete without the Comicsology Symposium.

Stars of this year’s festival: Akira Yamaoka, Brian Azzarello, Eduardo Risso and Simon Bisley.

The 22^nd International Festival of Comics and Games will host the winners of the Eisner Award (the most important prize in the comics world): Argentinean artist Eduardo Risso (100 Bullets, Batman, Spider-Man, Chicanos, Vampire Boy) and American writer Brian Azzarello (100 Bullets, Hellblazer, Batman, Loveless, Banner) and Simon Bisley, British author of famous comics (Lobo, Slaine, Batman, Hulk), illustrator and designer of heavymetal bands’ album covers.

The festival will also host a special guest – Akira Yamaoka from Japan, composer of music for video games and movies, known mainly for his music for Silent Hill (game and movie). Akira Yamaoka will perform at the festival’s gala (Oct 1, 2011) together with the Cool Kids of Death.

There will also be numerous other guests from Poland and abroad. Grzegorz Rosiński will fly straight from Switzerland. The festival’s public will also have a chance to meet Askold Akishin and Mischa Zaslavski – authors of a comics adaptation of the famous novel The Master and Margarita and of course numerous comics artists from Poland.

The festival invites students of primary and secondary schools to participate in the comics
competition entitled ‘My adventure with Łódź’. The finale of the competition will take place on
the 1st day of the 22nd International Festival of Comics and Games – September 30, 2011. The
honorary patron of the competition is Mr. Ryszard Bogusławski – director of the Center of Touristic
Information of the City of Łódź.

It will take place at the time of the 22. International Festival of Comics and Games in Łódź, again this
year co-organized by the University of Łódź. We encourage every above-average comics enthusiast
interested in its theory (i.e. comicsology) to participate in the meeting and discussion.

Also this year the organizers are planning to publish the Anthology of submitted articles (essays etc.).
Authors who are interested in participating in the publication are asked to contact the organizers: by

We remind you that there is no participation fee and that every author of an article qualified for
the publication will get their free copies of the Anthology. Those of them who also will come to the
symposium, will get a full set of the festival’s publications along with gadgets, not to mention the
free entrance to the festival and its fringe events (with a free hotel option).

The 22. International Festival of Comics and Games will take place in Łódź, September 30 – October 2, 2011.

We’re announcing this year’s competition for the short comics story. There are new rules available. As usual, the jury will grant the Grand Prix, three prizes and three special mentions. The deadline for submissions is August 31, 2011. The award ceremony will take place on October 1, 2011 during the festival gala.

Organizers of the festival chose the jury, who will assess the competition entries. The jury are: Wojciech Birek (writer, drawer, comic expert), Paweł Timofiejuk (writer, publisher), Witold Tkaczyk (writer, publisher), the first woman ever in the jury of the festival – Dominika Węcławek (journalist writing about comics) and last but not least – Michał Błażejczyk, also for the first time in our jury (comics researcher, creator of the magazine ‘Zeszyty komiksowe’).

For this year’s festival, we will exclusively publish a book devoted to comics from the most popular magazine for teens of the communistic Poland – the ‘Świat Młodych’ (‘World of the Young’). This richly illustrated publication is being prepared and edited by Leszek Kaczanowski, who did a tremendous work, ploughing through piles and piles of issues of the magazine, which turned out to be so important for the Polish comic art. We expect a very interesting result.

We already work very hard to set up the festival’s expositions. This year we have almost 20 of them! The most important ones are the expo of German comics, of Belgian comics and the exhibition co-funded by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage: ‘Masters of the Polish comic art’, presenting works of 3 artists: Tadeusz Baranowski, Przemysław Truściński and Michał Śledziński. The chiefs of the festival’s expo team are Beata Bocian, Paweł Połetek and Paweł Kwiatkowski.
