Comicsology, similarily to theatrology or musicology, is a form of activities – research and analysis of comic art, as a separate cultural phenomenon, separate artistic genre, autonomic form of artistic expression etc.
The comicsology symposium is organized every year as an accompanying event during the International Festival of Comics and Games in Łódź. This year we will hold its 10th edition. The symposium was created and is managed to this day by Krzysztof Skrzypczyk, member of the Association of Artists CONTUR, sociology graduate, artist, writer, cartoonist. The participants of the symposium are academic teachers, professors, students, postgraduates, comic art theoreticians and comic critiques. Interesting and inspiring lectures and discussions are open to the public of the festival. Previous editions of the symposium focused on following topics:

2006: Comics and comic heroes. An attempt to describe the ‘genre situation’ of a comic hero.
2007: Polish comic art: Masters and their masterpieces.
2008: Comic art as an artistic phenomenon – on the crossing of arts, media and genres.
2009: Comics and the problem of kitsch.
2010: Comics vs. comicsology. To identify and characterize the relations between a genre and its theory.
