A space, a brand, a collective. The Lisbon Studio (TLS) is all that, and more. Born from the fusion of different existing studios in Lisbon, during the mid-2000’s, it quickly became a reference for all artists in the city, with a very fluctuating membership, which brought together comic artists, illustrators and other graphic artists, linked to all sort of visual arts and crafts (animators, designers, cartoonists, multimedia artists). It is the true home of comics in Portugal, having had as members authors who have been among the most representative names in comics in Portugal for over a decade, with numerous awards won in the major events in their country, and who have also managed to give their work an international dimension, including names such as Jorge Coelho, Joana Afonso, Filipe Andrade, Nuno Plati, and many others.
The International Festival of Comics and Games and the TLS celebrate this global vocation with this exhibition opening during the 30th edition of the Lodz Festival – a new example of how the Festival has devoted attention to Portuguese comics over the years, and which already gave rise to collaborations between Polish and Portuguese authors resulting in original stories, celebrating the present but also the past of the TLS. An exhibition of work by the four artists present in Lodz, but which does not forget other Portuguese comics artists who, over the last 10 years, have entered and then left the physical space of The Lisbon Studio to conquer national and international markets.
